Dr Niall Crosby is an Associate Consultant in the Department of Ophthalmology. He practises in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Jurong Medical Centre, which are members of the National University Health System (NUHS). He obtained his undergraduate medical degree (MBChB) and a research degree in Neuroscience (BMedSc) from the University of Birmingham, UK, achieving honours in several subjects including Ophthalmology.

He worked in Accident & Emergency and Neurosurgery and taught Anatomy at the University of Leicester Medical School, before undertaking Ophthalmology training in the West Midlands, UK. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of London (FRCOphth) in 2011. Dr Crosby then undertook advanced subspecialist post-CCT fellowships in Vitreoretinal surgery in Sheffield, UK and at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He followed this with a third fellowship in Medical Retina and Uveitis at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, the oldest and largest Eye hospital in the world. Before coming to Singapore, Dr Crosby worked as a Consultant Vitreoretinal surgeon in the UK National Health Service (NHS).

Dr Crosby brings with him experience of having worked in 15 different Eye hospitals. He has mentored and trained several surgeons in retinal and cataract surgery and is actively involved in research, having authored 18 publications to date. His specialist areas of research are focused around the medical and surgical management of retinal disease, in particular on diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments and the surgical management of endophthalmitis. He is also working with the Birmingham Institute for Glaucoma Research on optimising patient safety in ophthalmic surgery, ophthalmic anaesthesia and elite performance in ophthalmic surgery.

He has recently co-authored his first book, 'Foundations of Intraocular Microsurgery: Principles for Elite Performance'

Dr Crosby's main areas of interest include:

Surgical retina: surgery for retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membranes, advanced diabetic eye disease, complex cataract surgery, endophthalmitis and ocular trauma.

Medical retina: all areas of medical retina including macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, vein occlusion and genetic retinal disease.

Uveitis: Anterior and posterior segment uveitis and scleritis.

He also performs cataract surgery and is trained in the latest technology using femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) and the use of premium intraocular lenses for correction of presbyopia and astigmatism.
